Who can we trust? Who owns the Media?

In a society where social media and online presence is ever growing, we can sometimes forget that not everything we read is the actual truth. Wikipedia can be changed and edited by anyone in the world, now think of that. Scary.

6:30 every night, Prime 7 news reporter runs through all the ‘most important’ daily stories of the day with thousands of Australians eagerly listening and watching. The news bulletin lasts for about 1 hour every night, where Australians put their trust into what they are hearing and seeing, believing that it is a reliable source. But is it?

Knowing actually so little about the television station, who owns Prime 7? Who is controlling the media that we access?

Prime7 is an Australian television network owned by Prime Media Group Limited, and an affiliate of the Seven Network. Prime Television launched on 17 March 1962 as CBN-8 in Orange, and has since expanded to cover regional New South Wales, Victoria and the Australian Capital Territory. (Wikipedia.org/Seven_Network). Ceo of Seven Network is Tim Worner, starting this position in 2011 after many years being mentored by the best.

Prime 7 is getting broadcasted to all of regional Australia, however as it is an affiliate of the Seven Network the news is generally the same to that of Nine and Win. The news sources do not vary and without this thought of who is actually controlling our media, we dont see this actually occuring. You would think if you were changing channels that you would be able to view and see something different, but this is rarely the case with these news broadcasts.

But at the end of the day, whom you put your trust in DOES matter. Whether that is reading an article online, or watching it on tv. What you are viewing and watching, without even noticing has a massive impact and influence on you, and others around you.

Without even trying and meaning to, a lot of news reports and articles have a bias opinion on the matter, whether that is intentional or not. The way an individual is raised, different cultures etc can view something entirely different. So before putting your trust into the media that you are viewing do some further research to come up with your own ideology and thoughts on the matter. Because at the end of the day, news on televison is a profittable business, wanting to make money aswell.
